Most people would say that happiness needs no formal definition, as we know what it is when we feel it. So, what are those feelings we call happiness? Synonyms like joy, contentment, and pride in one’s accomplishments are often used to define levels of happiness. Regardless of the words we choose to describe happiness, however, we understand that to be happy is not just to have a life without problems but to have love, peace, confidence; and above all, gratitude in spite of all of life’s challenges. When gratitude forms the foundation on which we build, then happiness and life-balance become achievable goals, and other elements such as peace, love and confidence are natural outflows.
